HISTORY & PERSPECTIVE -Since 1995 the Martin Luther King, Jr. Task Force of Cary has planned and implemented celebratory events designed to educate, inspire artist statement, and challenge ALL to create a welcoming, inclusive community that operates in an atmosphere of cooperation, respect and understanding. In 1998 the MLK, Jr. Task Force of Cary requested consideration, endorsement and sanction of an annual MLK, Jr. DREAMFEST to be held in Cary beginning January 1999 and henceforth year after year. It happened and continues to happen annually.
The MLK, Jr. Task Force of Cary became incorporated in 1998 as a non-profit community-based, culturally diverse group. Prior to becoming incorporated, OUR work was done in the community as an outreach effort of two area churches, Good Shepherd United Church of Christ and Cary First United Church of Christ. Today the organization operates by a totally volunteer Board of Directors working tirelessly To Do OUR Can Do Because the Why Is So Great! Throughout the year the MLK, Jr. Task Force of Cary encourages Artist, Performers, a better understanding of African-Americans, Women's issues, etc. and awareness of Diverse People contributions to the World.
